He hopes to let the reader know they are not alone in this frightening, overwhelming, impermanent, wonderful world. His author's "voice" suggests that you get a cup of coffee and join him in a conversation about life. Since it is his voice, you will probably not be able to get a word in but still, the experience should be an enjoyable one! He made a baker's dozen of his favorite chocolate chip cookies with walnuts. Another cup of coffee? Sure. And have another cookie.
