Company founders John and Miles O'Brien consider the full spectrum of lathe applications, beginning with how to measure accurately, and review everything from plain turning to cutting screw threads. 

The metal-working shaper is a precision tool for creating flat surfaces or making objects with odd shapes or angles. Every shaping process is precisely explained with the aid of dozens of well-crafted images.

The O'Brien Brothers founded South Bend Lathe Works in 1906, and it became the dominant manufacturer of precision metal working lathes throughout the world for most of the 20th century; their machine tools are found in countless machine shops and vocational schools. The company still thrives today as South Bend Lathe.
