The book consists of an introduction, nine chapters and conclusion. The first part presents the base of the methodology adopted in this issue, the purpose of the research questions and hypotheses. Later, in the genesis of the work, there was presented an interesting comparison between the role of a manager and a leader; with the necessary definitions and analysis of the leadership and management. This introduces the reader to presentation of current results of the research that focuses on analyzing the knowledge of leadership among individuals of the highest management position. The presented case of the studies is a valuable source of knowledge about the characteristics of the leadership and their perceptions by respondents. This allowed the author, in the following part, to present leadership styles and relate the issue to other factors that are more and more driven nowadays in the meaning of gender, age, personality types and intelligence in building the multicultural team. Particularly noteworthy; the chapter devoted to conflicts occurring in teams and conflict resolution is essential for this academic book. Such activities are crucial for the proper management of teams and thus presented the development by reference to a wider range of instruments that can be useful not only for the students involved in managing teams. Angelica Pegani – Author of 6 books, several dozen of interviews and articles, a radio and television journalist and PR manager also certified advertising and marketing specialist. She cooperates with the management board of UBC Management Group and the Excellence World Foundation. She is a graduate of the Faculty of Philology the Institute of Journalism and Social Communication at the University of Wroclaw, specializing in radio and television journalism and master studies at the Faculty of Life Sciences, Institute of Philosophy, Sociology and Journalism at the University of Gdansk. She defended her Master’s thesis and graduated with First-Class Honours degree in 2016. Two years later, she became a graduate at the Faculty of Management and Economics, Department of Operational Management Engineering at Gdansk University of Technology. As Media Doctor Candidate she taught at University of Gdansk in Poland, which provides that she has obtained a practical experience in a few academic disciplines including international communication and public opinion. As the Chairwoman, Spokesperson and Secretary General at the Excellence World Foundation, she is involved in the international humanitarian, charity and community development projects. She takes part in an academic seminars and conferences and speaks about mass media, leadership and management inside industries based mainly in Poland and United Kingdom.
Steven Cockerill – Captain with more than a few decades of experience with ro-ro/pax and offshore vessels. He graduated from the Hull Trinity House Navigation School in United Kingdom. At 16 years of age he had the necessary qualifications to gain cadetship with a company Furness Withy General Shipping Ltd. In 1979 he started his career as a deck cadet on cargo vessels before receiving his professional license. In 1989 he started to work mainly in offshore industry for Lowline Ltd. and after 2 years moved to one of the biggest shipping companies – Maersk Company Ltd. A few years later, his leadership skills were appreciated and he went through the ranks. In a meanwhile, he completed the MCA Master Mariner certificate - a professional qualification required to become a Captain that allowed him to be in charge of a commercial vessel of any size, of any type, operating anywhere in the world. Currently, taking command of one of the Danish ro-ro/pax vessels on Dover-Dunkerque route. He takes part in conferences and was a speaker at the International Shipping Conference organized by e International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) which is the principal international trade association for shipowners based in United Kingdom.
Publikacja jest analizą niezbędnych narzędzi dla międzynarodowych zespołów. Między innymi omówiono w niej budowanie wizerunku lidera zespołu, wskazano jego style przywództwa w zespołach. Analiza opiera się na wybranych przykładach zespołów o widocznych rezultatach. Na podstawie badań własnych autorki podjęto próbę odpowiedzi na pytania: Jakie są cechy międzynarodowych zespołów? Jakie czynniki wpływają na styl kierowania zespołem? Który system jest lepszy: przywództwo czy zarządzanie w efektywnych zespołach międzynarodowych? Jak powinien zachowywać się lider zespołu? Czy współpraca lidera z innymi ludźmi jest ważna w zespole?
W książce wspomniano o definicji lidera zespołu, o wymienionych stylach i źródłach tego zjawiska. Zasygnalizowano zalety i wady pracy w zespole, podobieństwa i różnice pomiędzy stosowaniem różnych rodzajów inteligencji w praktyce. Przede wszystkim zaprezentowano przemysł morski, który obecnie jest bardzo niedoceniany, w tym postać i styl lidera zespołu. Wybrana sylwetka kapitana w tej publikacji również nie została wybrana przypadkowo. Według dr. inż. Grzegorza Zielińskiego z Katedry Zarządzania Operacyjnego, Wydziału Zarządzania i Ekonomii Politechniki Gdańskiej szczególnie godny uwagi jest rozdział poświęcony konfliktom występującym w zespołach i rozwiązywaniu konfliktów. Takie działania mają kluczowe znaczenie dla prawidłowego zarządzania zespołami, a zatem prezentują rozwój poprzez odniesienie do szerszej gamy instrumentów, które mogą być użyteczne nie tylko dla studentów zaangażowanych w zarządzanie zespołami, ale również mogą być pomocne dla praktyków na co dzień zajmujących się budowaniem zespołu w różnych branżach.
